Technician II
Operations Manager
Norfolk, VA
Job Description:
Under minimal supervision as the company's single point of contact in the region, installs, cables, integrates, tests, programs, maintains and troubleshoots various microwave, fiber and copper networking and routing gear, including patch panels, DSX multiplexers (CAC), fiber multiplexers (Opti3), routers (Adtrans, NetVanta and Cisco) and point-to-point microwave radios (Ericsson, Ceragon) at multiple indoor and outdoor locations. Works with TTMI contractors for installation of microwave antennas and tower mounted radios and to "set the path" for the radio links. Also works with fiber carriers and end customers during circuit testing and acceptance.
Specific Responsibilities(duties include but are not limited to the following):
- Supports installation and configuration of network equipment.
- Configures equipment for network surveillance and supervision, including programming of IP addresses.
- Tests and accepts new network equipment and/or services.
- Maintains network equipment at a variety of terrestrial and wireless transmission locations.
- Immediately responds to critical and major service-affecting outages on a 24 x 7 basis.
- Troubleshoots and corrects network fault conditions; (RF alignment issues, DS1, DS3, OC3 and OC12 circuit issues).
- Maintains vehicle, test equipment and tools.
- Maintains service documentation, logs, preventative maintenance records, trouble tickets and incident reports.
- Performs other duties as requested, such as working with local authorities, establishing local offices or warehouse facilities, site surveys etc.
- Installs and test new circuits for all customers including all wiring and use of test sets for T1, DS1, OC3-OC12 circuits. Must be able to use test sets associated with the testing and installation of all types of circuits described above.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
- AA or Technical Associates degree desired.
- 3+ years telecommunications experience required, preferably working as a technician for a wireless operator;
- Microwave and/or digital transmission installation and operations experience required.
- Experience with Cisco and/or Netvanta routers beneficial
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of circuit testing and equipment operation. (DS1, DS3, OC3, OC12).
- Must have the knowledge of and ability to explain to customers what the levels of circuit is either being installed or being trouble shot at for T1, DS1, OC3-OC12 circuits.
- Strong computer skills, IP networking knowledge desired. Familiarity with DS1 and DS3 test equipment.

Network Planning Engineer
Senior Manager of Network Engineering
Job Description:
This position will be responsible for working in the Engineering department to perform network engineering functions. The key functions will include 1) act as the single engineering point of contact for a TTM market, 2) coordinate fiber optic designs, 3) preparing network configurations & define equipment specs to support the optical designs, 4) create network drawings and hardware configurations per vendor guidelines, 5) provide engineering support to network operations and field techs, 6) manage network capacity requirements through upgrades, LIT service orders and RF upgrades 7) work with existing engineering team staff to help evolve current networks to the next product plan of records
The position will create detailed network Design Packages for each market. The position will work with various cross-functional teams, including Operations, Implementation, Project Management, IT and Life Cycle Management. Organizational skills to work with multiple engineering projects and excellent communication skills are essential due to the daily interaction with the aforementioned cross-functional teams.
The position requires understanding and applying SONET, optical transport and Ethernet network engineering. The position will interact on a regular basis with dark fiber providers and equipment vendors, which will include managing vendor point of contacts, drive product technical requirements, future Plan of Records (PoR) and product support. The position will require providing regular updates to management and will require participating in meetings to represent Engineering. There will be some business travel required for this position.
The specific responsibilities are outlined in four areas. Specific Responsibilities (Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following):
Preparation of Network design and Network Integration Packages:
- Define fiber route and ring configuration designs
- Specify splicing requirements and prepare fiber provider IRU documents
- Create network integration packages for optical rings and customer sites
- Determine equipment configurations based on vendor design rules
- Use software tools, such as Visio, to create network design layouts
- Coordinate with Equipment Engineer for equipment purchase orders
Liaison with Implementation, Operations, and Site Acquisition Teams:
- Ensure red lined designed packages are integrated into site database.
- Resolve on-going network build issues and provide real time support to Operations and Implementation.
Coordinate optical Designs for a Large Market:
- Provide engineering data to the project management organization (PMO) to assist in TTM's deployment tracking process.
- Work with PMO office on development of process and documentation for deployment of optical sites.
Capacity Management:
- Forecast, report and manage network capacity
- Design network capacity upgrades
- Order and manage LIT service providers
Education & Experience:
- 5+ years working experience in the telecommunications industry.
- BA or BS degree a plus
- Prior optical network design and deployment experience with a CLEC or transport service provider is a plus.
- Prior cellular/microwave deployment experience with a wireless service provider is a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Telecommunications standards is essential.
- Good communications, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Individual must be detail-oriented.
- Flexible person with the ability to manage stressful situations and adapt to changing environments, including the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to direct work with remote teams and in a face to face environment.
